Sri Lanka has a climate of tropical monsoons; north-east monsoon (December to March) and south-west monsoon (June to October), due to proximity to equator. So the temperature is plain and high throughout the year. The average temperature in Colombo is 27 ºC with a humidity that varies from 70% at day time and 90% during the night.

In north-east monsoon, it rains to northern and eastern regions from December to January, while in south-west monsoon it rains from May to July to the western, southern and central regions of the country. January is known as the coolest month and more cold in mountain regions.

Although, Sri Lanka is a tropical and hot country, the mountain regions are quite cool with an average temperature of 16 ºC.
